Our Museum Needs List
If you or your Club wants to do something to help the Museum...please read on.
As you know, the Museum relies upon your donations and gifts to keep the doors open.
Just like you, we are feeling the effects of a declining economy...meaning we have to do more with less...and because we are not a government office...we need your donations...either a check or an item or items...to do what we are expected to do.
This is a "wish list" of administrative and preservation related items that we use to meet the needs of our programming and preservation goals.
If you can donate an item or the money to be specifically used for a specific purchase, we will be able to stretch our funds further and provide even more educationally related programming and exhibits to our neighborhood, specifically the school children, adults, and visitors to our County.
ADMINISTRATIVE and Display ITEMS
- The Museum has a single up to date computer... and needs 3 more...to enable us to network our collection, management, and public acccess upgrades. However odd the following sounds to you, we are compelled to say this because it is really important.
If the computer doesn't meet your needs because it is so old, it won't meet ours either.
To reduce staffing needs and keep administrative costs to the absolute minimum, we must use very intensive
It is more likely that a (dollar) gift specifically dedicated to our purchase of computers and displays is a better choice than donating your ancient computer. But if you have a desktop or laptop computer that can meet our needs, we would love to accept your donation.
Our goal to meet our computer needs is $2000 dollars. This would provide the computer workstations, network server and software we need.
- Heavy duty paper shredder
- Double Window Left Side self sealing envelopes for membership requests.
- First Class Postage Stamps...Forever stamps would be preferred.
- 1 additional large size red blinking neon OPEN sign for our front windows to remind the passing public that the Museum is there and open for their visit. About $120.
- Glass Handling Suction Cups...for safe removal and replacement of heavy large glass sections of display cabinets for periodic cleaning by our staff. About $45.
ARTIFACT PRESERVATION AND EXHIBIT NEEDS
- Metal Shelving (the kind that do not require nuts and bolts) "Gorrilla" is one brand that will work. The reason is that shelf reallignment is needed every once in a while to accomadate artifact ins and outs, as well as they are easy to disassemble should any major move happen years from now.
- Hundreds of Folded Cardboard Storage Boxes (Bankers type Boxes) with Tops (new only) They must be new because artifacts from your donations will be stored and labeled in them between display cycles...forever. Any amount or color or size is fine, but because they will be protecting your donated items for many more years than we will be around, they must be new and flat (pre- assembly).
- A Bunch of Black Broad Tip Magic Markers...to label each of the boxes and and correlate them with location and inventory.
- Many Heavy Duty 3 Ring Binders...to store and preserve the hundreds upon hundreds of pictures in our collection. 1, 2, or 3 inch are fine. Any color. 12 and 15 inch in size.
- Plastic Storage Bags with the slide lock top(sandwich sized small to XXX...as large as a newspaper)...to store artifacts made of paper, cardboard, and other items that are ruined if exposed to excessive moisture, dust, etc.
- Acrylic Display Cubes (all sizes) for loss protection for floor displays
- Pedestal Bases (all sizes) for floor display use.
