School budgets have been cut and cut again.
As a result, class trips to the Museum will not happen this year.
Our children will not see how their grandparents lived...and worked so hard...with so little...in the very County they live in...our Cherokee County.
Our school kids will not be exposed to artifacts that embellish their stories of their family history...those stories that Mom and Dad have told them as they have been growing up.
What exactly will the schoolchildren miss?
- They won't discover those tiny TV screens in huge cabinets...Children are always amazed when they see these weird old TV's...because they have only seen the huge flat screen TV's that are just about everywhere they go today.
- They won't discover "you-crank-it-by-hand" record players...These strange ancestors of present day CD players were used to listen to music long before their portable CD players most of them have... and most kids just drop their jaws when they suddenly realize it.
- They won't touch and feel cannonballs that were actually fired in the war between the states...no one has cannonballs laying around their house or yard...but we do! When the kids touch them, the past comes alive. But if they never get to the Museum...
- They won't push and pull a hand driven butter churn... Churning is so different from buying a plastic carton of milk or packaged butter that a lot of explaining is always required from their tour guide.
- They won't see the amazing hand made miniature church...A replica of a local church crafted with love for his neighbors by a local artisan and parishner.
- They won't visit a real blacksmith shop...so real, just like in the cowboy movies. Cowboy movies...probably never seen because the cartoons are usually on...but at the Museum, they feel and touch that past.
if they could just be brought to the Museum in those bright yellow buses.
YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS COMMUNITY LOSS.
WHY NOT SPONSOR A CLASS FIELD TRIP
TO THE MUSEUM?
It is easy.
Just $100 will do it.
You do not have to be a Museum member.
Anyone who cares...can sponsor a class trip...
an individual, a church, a business, a civic group, or club...
yes..anyone!
We will take care of the coordination with the schools
and will list your name or company name as the sponsor at the door
and on the Museum website.
The kids need your help this year.
Write that check today to the Museum Class Trip Fund and send it to us or drop in and present it in person.
